He was born in Sydney on the 3th of october 1916, he is an Australian writer, a doctor, an art historian, an art critic and an academic.
His father was Charles Smith and his mother was Rose Ana Tierney.
He had two wives, the fist wife was Kate Challis in 1941 and the second wife was Margaret Forster in 1995.
He studied at the university of Sydney and at the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes, University of London.
Bernard Smith has written a lot of books, like: "The Blue Cat Club", "The Man from Nowwhere", "European vision and the South Pacific", "The White Oryx", "The Boy Adeodatus", "The Last Photo", "The Ring". among others.
